Lip Fillers vs. Lip Flip: Which Treatment Do I Need? Staten Island, NY

With Valentine’s Day upon us, it’s the perfect time to learn about lips. As we age, our lips lose volume and definition, leading us to look for the best solutions to save a thin, uneven or asymmetrical smile. While lip fillers have been coming to the rescue for years, there’s a newer lip enhancement on the scene that’s grabbing a lot of attention: the lip flip!

Before you decide which treatment may be the right fit for you, let’s explore the key difference between lip fillers and lip flips:

What are lip fillers?

Lip fillers use FDA-approved dermal fillers, such as Juvéderm®, to restore lost facial volume and smooth lines and wrinkles. Dermal fillers are made with a modified form of hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the body that retains moisture. When injected into the lips, fillers add volume and definition to create a pillowy, plumped up pout. Lip fillers are injected into multiple areas to maintain the lips’ naturally soft and smooth feel while improving their overall contour. We administer Juvéderm Ultra XC for lip augmentation and rejuvenation of the mouth area. With this tried-and-true filler, you can enjoy up to 12 months of benefits per treatment.

What is a lip flip?

Lip flips quickly and easily create the illusion of a fuller lip without any added volume. Instead of using dermal fillers, lip flips use FDA-approved Botox® to temporarily relax the muscles underlying the upper lip. Once relaxed, the top lip “flips” outward to create a subtle, natural-looking enhancement. Since we only use a few units of Botox, a lip flip is not as invasive as lip fillers. Lip flip results typically last three to four months per treatment.

Why should I choose lip fillers over a lip flip?

Compared to lip flips, lip fillers are most ideal for:

● Adding volume and enhancing the size of your lips

● Smoothing vertical lip lines

● Providing long-lasting results

Why should I get a lip flip instead of lip fillers?

Compared to lip fillers, lip flips are most ideal for:

● Treating a “gummy” smile

● Introducing you to lip enhancements

● Providing temporary, subtle results

So, which is better for me?

It all depends on your aesthetic goals. If you aren’t ready to commit to lip fillers, a lip flip may be a better option for you. If fuller, more voluptuous lips are your end goal, it may be time to take the plunge with lip fillers.
